Monday 30 January 2012: The beginning of the year signifies big changes for Encounters Festival, as they welcome the appointment of a new short film programmer and announce their new dates in September.

Wednesday 23 November 2011: The 17th Bristol Encounters International Film Festival came to a close on Sunday 20th November after an action-packed 5-day programme brimming with talent, inventiveness and imagination. Showcasing the latest short films and animation from established and new filmmakers alongside a host of exclusive special events such as Bruce Robinson’s career retrospective with Directors UK, to one of the most innovative animators of his time, John K selecting his Desert Island Flicks, this year’s festival was a huge success.

Bristol Encounters International Film Festival, one of the world's best-known showcases for new and established international short and animated film talent, returns to the Watershed and Arnolfini from 16th to 20th November 2011. As part of the exciting progamme of screenings and events, the festival celebrates the work of leading and emerging film-making talent from Bristol and the South West area in Best of South West and Animated Encounters.

2011 programme announced: Showcasing the best short film and animation talent from around the world Tuesday 27 September 2011: Bristol Encounters International Film Festival returns to Watershed and the Arnolfini this November (16th to 20th) to showcase the best short film and animation talent from around the world. The UK’s only gateway to the Academy Awards®, BAFTAs, Cartoon d’Or and European Film Awards. The festival will showcase 180 new films from emerging and established talent from 31 countries in competition across strands Animated and Brief Encounters.
BRISTOL ENCOUNTERS 0117 HOUR FILM CHALLENGE COMPLETED
A SHORT RIDE TO SUCCESS
Thursday 30 June 2011: A total of 50 teams registered, 37 teams took part, and 30 films were finally handed in by the competition deadline. A variety of filmmakers took part, from professionals to students, film enthusiasts and artists, who each responded to the museum through an assortment of styles and genres, from live action drama, to animation, documentary, performance, experimental and even 3D.
