Skillset
Skillset is the skills council for creative media. Its goal is to maintain the UKs position as an industry leader in media. Skillset believes that it is their role to guarantee access to high level vocational training for individuals and organisations. To achieve this goal Skillset works with industry, training and public agencies, accrediting courses on the basis of relevance to industry.

Raindance
A fee-paying organisation for low-budget filmmakers, which also holds a yearly festival. It was created in 1992 and since then it has been offering advice and support for independent filmmakers. It also provides training and has produced some features.
Script Factory
This organisation labels itself as the Europe’s premier script development organisation.
They offer training and support for writers in UK and all over Europe. They also offer performed readings, script feedback, Professional Diplomas in Script Development, and workshops around the world.

Funding Schemes
UK Media Team
MEDIA is the European Unions programme for Film, TV and New Media industries. They aim to promote competition in Europe and to increase audiovisual circulation.
MEDIA was started in 1991 by the EU, and its last scheme started in 2007, this scheme will run until 2013.
Media offers independent production and distribution companies the opportunity to gain non-repayable grants, and provides financial assistance to training providers and festivals.

B3 Media: Blank Slate
The Blank Slate digital short filmmaking project helps new black and minority ethnic filmmaking talents. This project is funded through the New Cinema Fund, B3 Media and Arts Council England. The successful applicants receive practical support from the script to the screen, financial support is also offered.

Maya Vision: The Short Film Completion Fund
Maya Vision manages the UK Film Council’s Short Film Completion Fund. This fund provides finance and support for exceptional short films that have been shot but which do not have enough funds to finish. A fund of £70,000 is split up between two annual schemes, which help around 14 short films.
The Wellcome Trust
The Welcome Trust Arts Award is a scheme which supports inspired and unique arts projects exploring biomedical science. Their aim is to offer an incentive for interdisciplinary practice and collaborative partnership in arts, science and/or education practice.

The Satyajit Ray Foundation
A Foundation created to ensure that the work of one of India's most famous filmmakers is shown and appreciated, and to inspire new filmmakers. The prize for best short is £1,000.

UK Jewish Film Festival: The Short Film Fund
The Pears Foundation UKJFF short film fund is composed of two grants up to £10,000 for the production of a short film or video to the maximum length of 10 minutes. Drama, Animation or Factual projects with a Jewish theme are encouraged and applications are open to all filmmakers resident in UK.

Digital Shorts/ Digital Nation: UK Wide
Digital Shorts and Digital Shorts Nation enable filmmakers to make innovative shorts using digital technology. Applicants for the Digital Shorts Nation should be directors who have shown their skills through a Digital Short or work of same level. Only 12 films are selected for production, and the budget is between £17,500 and £20,000.

Pulse: Film London
Pulse was founded in 2002 in partnership with the UK Film Councils New Cinema Fund. It is aimed at new talent in the London region. For the selected filmmakers it provides the opportunity to make digital shorts for a variety of exhibition and distribution platforms. Around 5 films are commissioned per year. The budget range is £4,000-£12,000.

Cinema Extreme: UK Wide
Scheme created in 2002 by the New Cinema Fund and Channel 4, administered by The Bureau, to seek out and develop filmmakers with a distinctive directorial guidance and cinematic style. Up to four films are funded each year with a maximum budget of £50,000 (per film).

BBC Blast
BBC Blast is the BBC’s multimedia platform for young people aged 13 to 19. It is divided into sections: Art & Design, Dance & Drama, Fashion, Film, Games, Music & Audio and Writing. They also have a working experience section where the young people can apply for and be directly involved with the latest events.

Calling the shots (CTS)
It is a production company based in Bristol; it was set up in 1998. CTS is involved with broadcasting, digital video and multiplatform projects for TV. They also work with corporate clients and provide education. They aim to reach people of all ages and backgrounds. Their educational workshops for children are not only on acting but are also on production.

It is a service run by movie lovers that aims to educate children in cinema history by exhibiting films in schools. First Light movies
The organisations main priority is funding young people, aged 5 to 19, to make their own movies. Additionally, they host special projects aimed at different age groups. These projects encourage young people explore the different areas of film making with professionals.
Every year First Light movies organizes The Activision First Light movie awards, which has been labelled as the “mini-Oscars” ceremony.

Mediabox
It is a funding organisation, who aim to help young people, between 13 and 19 years-old. They have three different funds: Big Mediabox; Mid Mediabox; Mini mediabox. These funds can be used for film, television, radio, online projects, print and multi-media platforms. They also organize different competitions where prizes are normally in the form of guidance from a media expertise.

Suited & Booted – Studios CIC
Founded in 1999; Suited & Booted formed with the intention of merging the quality of commercial filmmaking and a community base ethos. Their main tasks are the provision of media content, the development and facilitation of media literacy, and educational projects.
They provide a trainee scheme for young filmmakers offering the chance to gain experience in the industry, eitht the aim of aiding them in starting a successful media career.

Young Film Academy (YFA)
YFA is the UK’s leading programmer, of educational filmmaking for young people aged 8-18. It is famous for tayloring workshops and training courses for schools. YFA visits over 50 independent and state schools, they also hosts workshops at the Guardian Hay Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, London’s children film festival.

4Talent
Offers support and help to talented individuals, with different projects geared to various age groups. For example their work experience scheme is aimed at young people aged 14 to 19. During one or two weeks, students spend time in various areas and thus getting an over-view how a broadcaster works.
Another project targeted for young people is the Inspiration Week. It takes place in Easter holidays. Students get involved in talks with high-level media professionals, peer-to-peer learning and can get careers advice.
