Leaving wins at Fuji Shorts and IVCAs
The multi-award winning domestic abuse drama Leaving, winner of the Encounters 2008 ITV West Award and the South West Screen Audience Award, received more prestigious accolades last week.
Leaving beat twelve other films winning first prize at the Fujifilm Shorts competition to win first prize for Best Cinematography. The film was recognised for the confident visual style captured by the DOP, Richard Stewart.
Following the Fujifilm Shorts success, Leaving went on to win four top awards at the IVCA Awards, recognized internationally as marks of excellence for effective communication. The Gala Awards Ceremony was hosted by comedian Jo Brand at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London. The film scooped Gold for Best Direction, Gold for Best Drama, Silver for Best Script and Highly Commended for Charity and Public Welfare.
Shot in Bristol and Chippenham, Leaving tells the story of one woman's attempt to leave an abusive relationship. Starring Kierston Wareing (BAFTA Best Actress Nominee - It's a Free World) and Johnny Harris (London to Brighton) the film aims to offer a glimpse into the long and arduous process of safely leaving an abusive relationship, as well as confront the deep-rooted misconception that those living with domestic violence ‘should just walk away'. Leaving was commissioned through Social Film Drama - a joint venture between communications and film production companies, Glennie McIntosh of Chippenham and Omni Productions of Bristol.
