Welcome...

Encounters is delighted to announce that there will be another 0117 Hour Film Challenge in 2012. Come back soon for more information or sign up to the newsletter at the top of the page.

Meanwhile, find out how the 2011 challenge got up to here...

To celebrate the opening of M Shed, the new museum of Bristol, Bristol Film Office, Encounters Bristol International Film Festival and M Shed invited filmmakers from all over the world to create a short film based in and focused on Bristol, in just 117 hours, between 17 – 22 June.

54 teams registered, 37 teams took part, and 30 films were finally handed in by the deadline on 17 June. For more information on how the challenge unfolded, and to find out which film won please read the Press Release.

The final films were screened at the Bristol Harbour Festival on the BBC Big Screen in Millenium Square on Saturday 30 July at 7.30pm (More information here).

Many thanks to all the filmmakers who took part, and the production, location and prize supporters who helped to make the challenge possible. Watch this space next year, as we hope to make the challenge an annual event.

What the teams got up to....

We invited filmmakers to make a 2 minute 30 second short film (either drama, documentary, experimental, live action or animation) in 117 hours. Films had to be of cinematic quality and be suitable for pre-watershed viewing. Each film had to be inspired in some way by a story, artifact or theme in one of the three galleries that form the core of the M Shed museum:

Bristol People: characters past and present, real and mythological, and the ways that they create, celebrate, trade and challenge, defining the character of the city.
Bristol Places: the physical and dynamic city, the locations and secret sites that shape the experience of the city.
Bristol Life: people’s shared experiences in the city, joining and leaving, at school, work, home and at play.
